Took this photo to try to show you how much media interest there suddenly is on a day when the Dodgers have a chance to clinch a division title, but as you can see, at least one person here didn’t find manager Don Mattingly‘s pregame comments to be all that interesting. Anyway …
As I suspected, the fact Hanley Ramirez is out of the lineup just one day after returning from a four-game absence with an irritated never in his back is by design. This is the way it’s going to be for a little while.
“It’s just part of the plan,” Mattingly said. “He’ll probably play a day and be off a few days. I don’t think anybody feels like Hanley is 100 percent or that we can just throw him out there a few days in a row.”
I asked him whether Hanley will be in the lineup tomorrow.
“Probably not … . The key is being able to keep him sharp. Just seeing him yesterday after (four) days, he walked three times and he was right on everything. It’s really just a matter of keeping him sharp” — meaning getting him just enough playing time without giving him too much.
Also, this didn’t come from Mattingly’s pregame session, but the Dodgers are putting playoff tickets on sale beginning Friday. Here is the Los Angeles Times report with all the pertinent details on that.
